Description

Deaaugh, tryin' out AC style(?). His mane doesn't make sense at all and looks out place to me... Just pretend that he's the new main character for Yu-Gi-Oh where most of the main characters have those kind of hair. Anyhoot, this is for :icondeviantcrossing:

Name: Solis

Animal: Lion

Gender: Male

Birthday: May 17

History:

Solis is born blind in one eye and he hailed from a small town that are not too well known. He is the only child in his family. Back then when he was a l'il cub, he had a very hard time making friends as the other kids were intimidated by his eye patch and avoided him as they think that they might get "infected" if they get too close to him. Due to that, Solis often goes back home and cries to his dad about the incident. Solis is much more closer to his dad than his mom as his dad is in charge of house works and is always there to take care of Solis, while his mom is a work-a-holic and hardly spends time with Solis. Whenever Solis came back with the word 'rejection' written on his forehead, his dad cheers him up by telling him stories, mostly fairy tales or chivalry stories. Sometimes, he might even role plays with Solis as knight and dragon battling to the death, when he had the time. This greatly influenced Solis to fall in love with fantasies of fairy tales and chivalry. One day, instead of coming back home with his face covered in tears and snot like usual, he came back with a huge bump on his head due to some kid threw a rock at him. On that day, Solis cried non-stop and his dad tried his best to comfort him but wasn't successful. But then, his dad got an idea that might cheer him up. He went up stairs to the antics room and came back to Solis with big metallic object in his hands. Curious, Solis dried his tears and emptied his nose, and to his surprise, what he saw was a chest plate with some slight dents to it. His dad told him that this chest plate is the family treasure and it has been passed down by his ancestors from generation to generation. And if Solis swore not to cry from that day onwards, this chest plate will be given to him on his birthday which is quite nearby. Solis made a kinghtly promise with his dad and he kept his promise, soon earning himself the chest plate as promised on his birthday. Because it's too heavy to put on as he is still just a cub, Solis just put it next to his bed. He took great care of it till he can wears it one day. Solis does not refer it as just an 'ordinary piece of armor' but as his 'first friend'. That is because the armor does not makes fun of him nor reject him. Instead, it gave him courage to face tomorrow's challenges and making him slightly more optimistic whenever he gazes at it till he falls asleep every night.

Fortunately, his high school life is more brighter as he is now active in attending clubs and more sociable. Despite his growing age, his love for fairy tales and chivalry remain the same. He joined clubs that are knightly to him like fencing and archery, but he left the fencing club not too long after he joined as he fear that he might injures his one and only eye that might lead to blindness in an accident. However, he stayed in archery club for quite a while as he is surprisingly skilled at archery. He claims that it is much more easier to focus with only one eye. Time flies as he graduated from high school and he noticed that fantasy-genre and chivalry are slowly dying (or atleast in this AC world) throughout the years. Modern warfare seems to be the big thing now, even kids at the age of 10 can name more guns and other warfare vehicles' codename used in the armies than Solis can. He hardly even hear anyone talking about knights or magics. This made Solis even more bumped as he still had no idea what he wants to be in the future. Being restless, he decided to clean up his room and he came across a brown worn out note book with words; "Adventure Log" handwritten childishly in the front cover. He remembered that he used to record down the role play adventures with his dad and made up stories about it in this little notebook. Saving a damsel in distress in a tower from the ferocious dragon, brewing potions in a huge cauldron that can grant one's immortality with random stuff, stealing from the riches and giving them to the poor, those kind of usual whatnots of a storybook. As he read through some stories written by his younger self, he was struck down by an imaginary hammer of ideas. He decided to be a storybook writer. His goal is to be a dashing hero in shinning armor that saves the fantasy genre from falling into the hands of death. Since it is best to instill the beauty of fantasy genre at the very early stage, his stories will be intended for younger readers.

After graduating from college, he soon found a company to work for and starts out by writing some short stories which will be sent to the editor to check for any faultiness and then he combines the accepted works with the other writers' works to make a book with collection of fairy tales which to be publish if gained approval. Because Solis wanted his stories to stand out from the other boring generic fairy tales, he experiments by using different styles of writing like adding twists to the story to make things interesting. However, he tried way too hard, causing most of his stories to end up weirdly or just plain absurd. He is completely oblivious about the weirdness in his stories so he continues writing more of them. Because of that, not much of his works got accepted. He thinks that by changing environment, he might get more decent ideas for his stories. Therefore he searched high and low for towns that fits his likings and finally decided to move to Mapleville.

Personality: Quirky; His personality is like a big brother sort, easy to get along, putting his friends ahead of himself, and can be quite prideful as he tries to hide his fears in front of others. He can talk about knightly stuff whole day and sometimes compare situations with notable storybooks/literatures. Only his body grew up, he is still a child in heart. This makes him not hesitate to join others in kiddy activities and also cry over things that did not go his way. He never admits that he cries even when it is obvious to tell from his looks.

Home acre: C2

Initial phrase: "-sunshine!"

Quote: "The pen is mightier than the sword!"

Trivia:
- He always bring his pen and his old note book with him as he keep them on his belt
- If he had an eureka moment for his story, he will write it down on his note book.
- He named both of his pen and note book as 'Excalibur' and 'Aegis' respectively
- He has great fear of being blind, darkness and power failures. He used to fear of sharp objects.
- He hardly shows up outside at night unless there's something important to do
- He sleeps with lights on, so his house will remain lighted throughout the night
- He has a sweet tooth
- He wears the chest plate proudly even if he's made fun of as being walking reminder of the existence of fantasy genre is one of his plan
- His "cape" is made out of his curtain
- He chose to wear that heart-shaped cross eye patch because he think it looked silly and might help to not look intimidating to others
- He eats fish instead of meat
- His birthday (Ignoring the year) is the same day as the release of the novel 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz'

Side note:
- Character idea was inspired by 'Don Quixote' from 'The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha' which is about a delusional man who goes on an adventure as a knight to revive chivalry
- Originally, Solis is going to be a timid, referencing the Cowardly Lion from Wizard of Oz but since there's quite a handful of timid, the idea was scrapped
- The heart shaped cross eye patch suppose to symbolize lack of (brave) heart(?) and was meant for the Timid Solis but I liked the design so I kept it... Although it was tin man who needs the heart but... Arf
- 'Solis' is derived from the latin word; 'sol solis', meaning sun, referencing his lack of presence outside at night and his mane shape
